Debating Development 2010

Revisiting the Millennium Development Goals. Counting down to 2015

Created: 2010-10-04 12:17:43

This year’s edition marks the 10th anniversary of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). In 2000 the United Nations member states adopted a set of development goals, to be reached by 2015. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, achieve universal primary education, promote gender equality and empower women, … Although the first reaction was one of great enthusiasm, the public opinion soon responded with skepticism. The goals were believed to be far too unrealistic, and were used for purposes for which they were not designed. But where do we really stand after ten years?

Debating Development is organized by the Institute of Development Policy and Management (IOB-UA) and the University Foundation for Development Cooperation (USOS). The initiative can count on financial support of VLIR-UOS .
