The debates series consists of 5 debate evenings, on Tuesdays from 7.30 pm until 9.30 pm, and 5 research seminars on Wednesday mornings from 11 am until 1 pm. The evening debates are organised in Auditorium, STUK, Naamsestraat 96, 3000 Leuven and open to a large audience of students and other interested people. The Wednesday morning seminars are for advanced Master and PhD students only. 3 to 4 students are selected (on the basis of an abstract) to present their own research on a topic related to the debate. This presentation counts as an exam.
STRUCTURE
In each session two guest lecturers will share with us their alternative readings of specific urban spaces. Each session will be concluded by a debate moderated by a thematic expert.
LANGUAGE AND COURSE MATERIAL
The debates will be conducted in English. Course material, reading lists and/or recommended literature reading will be made available on this website.
EXAMINATION
Students can choose between an oral presentation during the Research Seminars on Wednesdays (students will be selected on the basis of an abstract) or a written paper on a topic related to one of the debates.
The exam presentations will be discussed by one of the debates' guest speakers. For a list of seminar dates and discussants, see below. Exam presentations and written papers will be graded by the Academic Coordinators of the series.
On 30 September 2009 (11 am - 1 pm, AV 91.12, Parkstraat 45, Leuven) students will be invited for an information session on the course and the exam requirements, with detailed information regarding different themes, presentation and paper.
